Everyone can live longer, how should we live our lives?

BABA lab is a company that is seriously considering and challenging how to create a society where everyone can think, ‘Living longer isn’t so bad,’ in today’s long-life society.

BABA lab’s activities are twofold.
One is to ‘develop the systems, services, and products necessary for a super-ageing society.’
The other is to ‘listen to the voices of those who are currently elderly and those who will become elderly in the future.

BABA lab champions the vision of ‘creating a society where everyone can feel that living a long life is not such a bad thing’. Naturally, realising this is no simple matter, nor is it something achievable through the ideas of just one person. Above all, it is crucial to capture the “reality of those directly involved”. However, older people are also individuals who tend to be subject to “bias”.

Since 2011, BABA lab has managed numerous senior communities. What we have consistently prioritised is “not lumping seniors together as one homogeneous group”.
We must question our own biases, compare against national and research firm data, and conduct careful interviews.

While physical decline means an increase in “things they cannot do”, the reality is that there are also many “things they can do”, and there are significant individual differences in capability levels.

Having communicated with seniors face-to-face, we proceed with projects based on the premise that ‘there are all sorts of people’. We listen to each senior’s voice and value their desire to ‘do something’ or ‘be of use to someone’, without being constrained by age.
